Happy Gardening!

It’s time to roll up our sleeves and dig in!

The ground is thawing and as temperatures rise, so does a gardener’s spirit. Now is the time to clean up your landscape after the long winter, till and amend garden beds to prepare for another season of planting, begin weed and disease control regiments, and start putting plants in the ground and containers again! Don’t forget to visit local nurseries and garden centers and ask about our exciting new plants and products for the season!

Watch the landscape come into full bloom!

In the thick of the growing season, don’t forget to continue weeding, watering, fertilizing and maintaining garden beds and containers. Deadhead annuals and perennials by removing faded flowers and seed heads to direct the plant’s energy toward flowering rather than seed production. Pinch back phlox, asters, and other flowering perennials to encourage more flower production. Apply slow-release fertilizer in midsummer to boost plant performance until frost.

Take advantage of cooler weather!

Before you sharpen your tools and head in for winter, plant bulbs and new trees, shrubs, and evergreens, divide spring-blooming perennials, and replace tired, leggy annuals with colorful mums, asters, and ornamental kale. Remember fall is for planting! Keep freshly planted trees and shrubs and newly seeded lawns well watered until frost. Bring in houseplants and prepare your garden for winter.

‘Tis the season to bring the outdoors in!

Fill your home with wreaths, Christmas trees, poinsettias, garland, amaryllis, and houseplants. Rest up before the ground thaws and we dig back into the dirt again come spring! Dream up container garden combinations for spring, research new plants of the coming season, and review notes from past seasons to see what worked and what didn’t.
