Summer Harvesting

What do you look forward to the most in the summer? One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to pick berries. So far I have been able to get Strawberries from a u-pick farm, wild Blackcaps or Black Raspberries (depending on who you ask), currants, sour cherries and Red Raspberries this summer. Man! Did I get Raspberries! I think I brought home close to 20 lbs in July. I’m not sure what I’m making with it all yet. For now everything went in the freezer. I’m hoping to find a choke cherry tree before all the cherries drop this year. Shout out if you have any good leads! They make fantastic jelly.

In my home garden I have a few tomato and pepper plants. I can’t wait for  home grown tomato sandwiches. So far I haven’t gotten any slicing tomatoes yet, but the cherry tomatoes are making up for it. I’m growing one called Chocolate Cherry. I’ve only gotten one tomato from it so far, but it was delicious.

I don’t have a lot of space to grow veggies in the ground so I have to be a little bit selective with what I grow and try just a few new things a year. This year I tried beets and carrots for the first time and they look good. I haven’t tasted the beets yet, but the carrot was delicious.
