Assistant Grower

Sargent’s is looking for an adaptable, friendly, organized, hard-working, and knowledgeable individual to join our team as an Assistant Greenhouse Grower. This person will assist the Head Greenhouse Grower in leading the greenhouse team to accomplish the goals developed for this department.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Represent Sargent’s Vision, Mission and Values in your actions and communication.

- Help lead greenhouse disease, weed and insect control program
- Assist in leading staff including communication, training, scheduling, and development
- Plant handling, receiving, tagging, fertilization, shipping, etc.
- Forklift and loader operation, training and supervision
- Assist in administrative duties, including working in Excel, Word and our payroll system (ADP)
- Assist with control of annual and perennial inventories
- Collaborate with and assist other Departments within Sargent’s, such as garden centers, potted trees and shrubs, field, and snow removal as needed
- Work a schedule that will include all weekends in April, May and June, and rotating weekends the rest of the growing season
- Promote and lead a safe and efficient working environment
- Maintain greenhouse and greenhouse production equipment such as watering, planting, and greenhouse systems.
Skills/Education:
- Minimum two-year degree in horticulture or related field, or 5+ years’ experience in greenhouse production
- Ability to obtain a DOT health card and be on Sargent’s auto insurance policy
- Experience in pest control in a greenhouse environment
- Detail oriented, organized and excellent communication skills
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
- Experience with the H2A program is a plus
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

- Pay range $21.01 to $30.47 hourly. Wages commensurate with experience and must be in alignment with Sargent’s Career Pathways – Production Pathways (pages 32-34)
