Sargent's History in Rochester
We are proud to be a family owned business. In 1971, Forrest Sargent founded Landscape Nursery, Inc. Today, Sargent’s is still owned and operated by Forrest and Faye Sargent with the help of their son, Nick. With a fifth-generation already planning to “work in the nursery” when they grow-up, Sargent’s Landscape Nursery, Inc. looks forward to providing great plants, excellent customer service and creative designs for many generations to come.
Sargent's at Miracle Mile
In 1971, Forrest Sargent leased the Donaldson's Garden Center at the north end of the Miracle Mile Shopping Center. This was Sargent's entrance into the Rochester market.
Sargent's North: Breaking Ground on 18th Ave
In anticipation of vacating the space at Miracle Mile, Forrest Sargent purchased 40 acres of pastureland along 18th Ave in Rochester. Giving up the high traffic count at Miracle Mile would mark Sargent's transition from a retail focused business to a landscape focused business.
Sargent's on 2nd: Continued Growth
In the early 1980s, the greenhouse growing enterprise at Sargent's North was easily producing more than what could be sold. Adding a high traffic location just five blocks west of St. Mary's hospital was a landmark, strategic decision that accelerated retail and landscape business.
Reflecting on 50+ years in Rochester
In the last 50+ years, Sargent's has become a major player in the Rochester landscape and garden center business. In 1971, it wasn't guaranteed that we would have the success we've had. Only through the commitment of our fantastic staff were we able to carry our business through to the modern era.
